Approximately 90% of the population in UK are suitable candidates for hypnosis. Some people allow themselves to relax very quickly and easily and accept suggestions, or visualise whatever is described.  Most people tend to find it takes a little longer to let go fully, but hypnosis is a skill which can be rapidly learned and which improves with practice.

Some forms of hypnosis are extremely similar to the sort of deep relaxation that is experienced at the end of yoga sessions, or other physical practices. So you may find that you are already familiar with it or that you can use other meditation or relaxation techniques as a way into the hypnotic experience.

Hypnosis may not be suitable for people with certain medical conditions, or for those who have difficulty staying still or focussing for more than a few minutes. But in these cases other forms of psychotherapy and relaxation can usually be tried in place of hypnosis. Do contact me if you have any questions or concerns about this.

In some cases people come wanting hypnosis and then discover that they find talking their problems through and developing strategies is more helpful to them. Or they may feel happier using a narrative approach and writing about their thoughts and difficulties.  These are all valid approaches which I am trained and experienced in using, and in the early stages of therapy we will have time to discuss whether hypnosis is the best form of treatment and to explore other options if necessary.
